Want to know God?

Don’t make it so difficult. Let’s talk about trust.

Before you become overwhelmed by the big picture, try to focus your thoughts on understanding the day-to-day matters of trust. Jesus took events going on around Him and made practical application to heavenly truths. “A sower went out to sow his seed” (Luke 8:5). Can’t you see the sower in the background doing his daily tasks as Jesus talked about the soil’s condition, the seeds and relating His message to the listeners? This helped Christ’s followers to understand a deeper spiritual truth He wanted them to follow. 

Do you want to know God? Let me communicate a major truth: Believing Jesus is God’s precious Son makes you a Christ follower. The spiritual truth is trust. A person must believe in God and His Son before they can feel the joy of faith believers have discovered. 

Today I sat down in my office to write this article. I turned on my computer, opened my word processing software and began to write. All this was done without a thought of how the computer really works. I trust it will work. I depend on the computer to communicate with friends and family. Even though I can’t speak the technical language of computers, nor do I understand every detail of how a computer works, I trust the computer will work.

Knowing God as our Father and following Christ is a journey. It all starts with trust (John 3:16–17). If you trust Him, His message will change your life (John 8:32). When you trust, He will prove Himself to you and you will understand more clearly the believer’s concepts of love and forgiveness (John 15:11–14; Matt. 6:12). It all begins with trusting God.

Getting to know God isn’t difficult. John Sammis penned these words in the old hymn, “Trust and Obey”: “Trust and obey, for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.” If you are willing to communicate with God, He will prove Himself worthy of your trust.

Don’t make it difficult, just start trusting. It will be the most magnificent journey you will ever experience.
