Zion Hill Baptist Church, Andalusia
I often hear, “I am not good enough to be a Christian” or “God has allowed so many people I love to suffer with illness, I just can’t believe in Him.” In just a minute, I am going to give you five verses. This is for anyone, whether you have been a believer for years, if you’ve never accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior or if you are somewhere in between — meaning someone who may have accepted Christ at some point in your life but now you are just not sure.
I challenge you to get a Bible, a pen and a piece of paper. Turn off your TV, cellphone, etc., and tell your family you want 30 minutes completely alone. In other words make this a time just for you and God to talk. I don’t care if you have to get in your car and drive somewhere. Get totally alone, talk to God for a minute, maybe confess some things that have been on your heart, thank Him for His presence and take a deep breath.
- Romans 5:8
- Hebrews 5:8–9
- Ephesians 3:17–19
- James 1:12
- 2 Corinthians 1:3
Look up the first verse, read it, write it down, take just a minute to think about what you just read (and if you need to, read it again) then write down whatever that verse has said to you. Do this with each verse. When you are done, thank God for talking with you, say whatever else is on your heart and then go on with your life for the rest of the day.
Tomorrow go through the steps to get quiet and look over that same list. Let Jesus and the Holy Spirit speak to your heart. Let Him guide you and comfort you. Jesus is waiting for you. He wants to save you from hell. All you have to do is ask Him.
You don’t have to worry if you don’t think you have the “right” words. Just ask Him to forgive you, tell Him you know He is the only way and that you believe in Him, give Him your heart and ask Him to take over your life.
