The University of Mobile’s (UM) first “first lady,” Annie Boyd Parker “B” Weaver, died Dec. 7. She was 88.
Her husband, William K. Weaver Jr., is the founding president of UM and current chancellor.
A member of First Baptist Church, Mobile, since 1961, Annie Weaver served as a church trustee and on numerous church committees.
She also organized the Mobile College (UM’s original name) Auxiliary and served in an advisory position throughout its existence.
When the auxiliary disbanded, its scholarship fund was named The Annie Boyd Parker Weaver Scholarship Fund.
Weaver also served on the boards of the Community Concert Series, Mobile Opera, Florence Crittenton Home, Mobile Mental Health Association and Association of Alabama Baptist Ministers’ Wives, serving a term as president, and as chair of Candlelight Christmas for the Historic Mobile Preservation Society.
In 1987, she became one of the first two women to be made an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Mobile.
Weaver is survived by her husband, a daughter, a brother and three grandchildren. (UM)
