It was great to read of the programs by the Acteens in The Alabama Baptist. It gave me “goose bumps” of sorts, as I am a member of the beginning Acteens organization at First Baptist Church in Butler.
It has been many years and there has been much water under the bridge since those days.
We opened the program to all girls who wished to become a minister in the organization, from eight to 16 years of age.
Our activities included starting a disaster closet within the church that delivered items of need to the community. We also visited the local jail, delivering personal items and were overwhelmed at the condition of individuals in the cells.
I believe many of these young ladies benefited from that experience at a time when their young minds were impressionable at that age. Maybe it would do well to have this type of experience passed on to the youth of today, due to so many unnecessary activities of young people.
