Tina Weldon’s life has not been easy. She was in a car accident that nearly took her life, saw her father become disabled at a job and battled anorexia during her college years. In 2007, Weldon was thrown another curve ball — her sister was diagnosed with sarcoma, a cancer that is terminal. While many would have thrown their hands up and looked only to the negative in the situation, Weldon has chosen to look at the blessings in her life instead. By doing that, she has been able to face the trying situation head on. Weldon has helped her sister every way she knows how, such as traveling with her to treatments and planning fund-raisers to help with medical costs.

Q: How has your faith in Christ and your sister’s faith in Christ helped your family through this?
A: Without our faith, we would not be here. It is the only thing that gets us up and keeps us going. My sister is in a lot of pain, and her situation continues to worsen … our prayers and the prayers that other people are saying for her are the only things that keep her going. Our faith has grown stronger with every single thing we have been through.

Q: How have you seen God work through this situation in your sister’s life?
A: Her strength has impacted everyone around her. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t look at her and doesn’t just stand amazed. If I were in her shoes, it would be hard not to have a pity party, but she is not that type of person. She is an incredible person. It has been phenomenal to see the fight she puts on. Her attitude has changed my life.

Q: What difference has being a Christian made in your life?
A: It is only by the grace of God that I am able to get up and overcome the pity and sadness that I feel in my heart. The devil wants you to try to think of the future, of what life will be like when Amy is not with us. If you allow that to happen, you grieve every day and you lose time, precious time.
