Christian Women’s Job Corps (CWJC) and Christian Men’s Job Corps (CMJC) is not a handout; it’s a hand up,” said Kathryn Nunnelley, CWJC site co-coordinator for Calhoun County.
CWJC/CMJC is a ministry of national Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU) that teaches job and life skills within a Christian context. Two elements that make CWJC/CMJC unique from other job-readiness programs are that each participant is required to be in a Bible study and is matched with a one-on-one mentor.
“When sin came into the world there was a brokenness with God, with each other, ourselves and our resources, and that is the basis which CWJC and CMJC work off of,” said Jean Roberson, ministry consultant and adult resource team leader of national WMU and director of CWJC/CMJC and International Initiatives. “Healing and life change occur in all four areas: life, job, understanding of self and ability to relate to other people, and who you are in Christ.
“Because we address all four of those areas we are not just a job skills place; we’re not going to just do a Bible study and then send you out the door,” she added. “One of the attractions of CWJC/CMJC is when there are ministries that choose one path we choose to work holistically. … I think that’s attractive to people that we are willing to invest in the whole person.”
