White House releases new guidance urging Americans to stay at home for 15 days

The White House has released updated guidelines encouraging Americans to stay at home and avoid unnecessary interactions with others for the next 15 days in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus in the United States.

The advice contained in “15 Days to Slow the Spread” urges Americans to:

  • avoid gatherings of 10 or more people
  • avoid eating in restaurants, bars and food courts and instead use drive-thru, carry-out or delivery options
  • delay discretionary travel, including shopping trips and social visits
  • practice frequent handwashing and sanitize frequently touched objects often.

Even young and healthy people can spread the virus, the guidelines state.

“It is critical that you do your part to stop the coronavirus,” the guidelines state.
