Regarding the top news story in the Jan. 1 issue of the Alabama Baptist, I found it very interesting that an International Mission Board (IMB) missionary would report that Baptists worldwide share the same beliefs but just worship differently. I seem to remember that it was just a few short months ago that a number of IMB missionaries were fired for refusing to sign (an affirmation of), if not a creed, then certainly a formal statement of doctrine.
At least one of these “doctrines” concerns who can lead Baptists in worship. This also comes just a week after the Southern Baptist Executive Committee recommended withdrawing from the Baptist World Alliance because of differences of opinion on how to conduct business both worldwide and at home.
Who is the writer trying to convince that we are all alike, Southern Baptist Convention and IMB executives or us common pew warmers?
