Roger Willmore has announced his retirement as director of missions for Calhoun Baptist Association. He has served in this role for more than 10 years, working alongside the 83 churches in the association in several ministries including the backpack ministry, Willmore’s favorite. In addition, he has served 42 years as a pastor, including seven years at First Baptist Church Weaver. He was president of the Alabama Baptist State Convention (2006–2008).
A graduate of Samford University and Jacksonsville State University, Willmore holds a master’s and doctor of ministry degrees from Luther Rice Seminary; an honorary doctor of divinity degree from the University of Mobile and Judson College; and a doctor of philosophy degree from Trinity Theological Seminary.
Willmore has been actively involved in overseas ministries that include several trips to Ukraine where he helped build a seminary in Kiev and preaching in many countries, including Japan. He and his wife, Sandra, have one adult son. Willmore plans to remain active in ministry.
A celebration honoring Willmore will be held at Parker Memorial Baptist Church, Anniston, May 17, 5 p.m. Special guests include David Olford of Olford Ministries Institute of Biblical Preaching, and Rick Lance, executive director of the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions. Music will be provided by the CBA choir, directed by Don Gober, music minister of Parker Memorial. A reception will follow.
