Al Hood, director of missions (DOM) for Winston Baptist Association since 2000, will be retiring from the position Dec. 31.
“Watching people as well as churches grow and challenge themselves to get more involved in missions by going as well as giving” has been one of the most rewarding aspects of his ministry, Hood said.
Hood received his education from Walker State Technical College (now Bevill State Community College) in Sumiton, the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and Luther Rice University in Lithonia, Ga.
He has served as pastor of Saragrossa Baptist Church, Nauvoo; Philadelphia Baptist Church, Jasper; Center Grove Baptist Church, Cullman; and First Baptist Church, Andrews, N.C.
Throughout his more than 14 years as DOM, Hood said he sought to embed a “missional mindset” within the pastors and members of Winston Association — a mindset that produces a willingness to do whatever it takes to reach people for Christ.
Once retired Hood and his wife, Duronda, plan to move to Murphy, N.C. He plans to become more involved in missions as well as being available for interim positions and pulpit supply.
The couple has two children and six grandchildren.
