Workshop to challenge youth ministers, leaders to grow

As a youth minister or youth ministry volunteer it can be challenging to know how to grow and help lead a mature and effective ministry team. Activities and day-to-day needs can often take over and overwhelm any leader and make it difficult to do anything but the basics.

That’s why Samford University’s Ministry Training Institute (MTI) has teamed up with First Priority, The Alabama Baptist newspaper and Florida-based consulting ministry Student Ministry Essentials (SME) to offer the Student Ministry Leadership Workshop on Dec. 3, 6–9 p.m.

Charles “Poker” Boyd, president and founder of SME, will lead the event.

The workshop will be held in the third floor conference room of the Sullivan-Cooney Family Field House on Samford’s campus in Birmingham.

The workshop also will launch Samford’s new online Certificate in Student Ministry.

Kevin Blackwell, Samford’s assistant to the president for church relations and executive director of MTI, said, “Youth ministry is so critical in our churches as the culture continues to decay morally. Youth are faced with grown-up decisions at an early age. The church’s ministry to youth must be of high caliber and this workshop will be of great benefit to those who participate.”
