Worth Dying For
Integrity Music
While these types of bands — the kind sharing the worship-hipster mold Worth Dying For has generously poured itself into — are typically a dime a dozen, the self-titled debut release from this California-based group is a lot of bang for your buck. It is passionate and energetic, and at 15 songs, it’s nearly two records rolled into one. The sound is standard punkish, rock-station fare in the vein of bands like Skillet and Inhabited, and they do it well.
The songs are kept interesting by the alternating male/female vocals and occasionally odd arrangements and effects, which include scratching in at least one song. There is also an almost deliberate “rah rah” vibe conveyed in the hyper-repetitious choruses, a few of which actually come off like Toni Basil cheerleader chants.
This is a good thing and can only underscore their mission to transcend the “just a band” mind-set and start a “youth movement that can shake generations.”
