Jacob Freeman is the new Baptist campus minister at the University of Montevallo.
Freeman will lead the BCM (Baptist Campus Ministries) at Montevallo and work with students at Jefferson State Community College Shelby-Hoover Campus. The two campuses have a combined undergraduate student population of approximately 7,500.
Freeman said he is excited and grateful for the opportunity to serve with the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions and BCM.
‘A privilege’
“What a privilege it is to be working with local church ministries in training future leaders of our congregations, discipling college students through their years of study and proclaiming the gospel to the nations as they come from around the world to study at our institutions,” he said.
Freeman replaces Sean Thornton, now a campus minister at Auburn University who served at Montevallo from 2007–2017.
Baptist roots
Freeman is a Montgomery native who grew up at Eastmont Baptist Church. He attended Super Summer Alabama as a student, where he first began to explore a call to ministry. Freeman earned a degree in religious studies from LaGrange College in Georgia and a master of divinity degree from Beeson Divinity School in Birmingham.
He previously served as associate pastor and college minister at Christ Central Church, Calera. Jacob and his wife, Brittany, are parents of twin sons.
