At least 13 Christians were killed for their faith in Uganda during the waning days of 2023.
Morning Star News gives the following details about the slayings of the Christians:
—On Dec. 17, Sawuba Naigaga, 46, died in a hospital from injuries inflicted by her son, who is a Muslim. He had attacked her on Dec. 15 after realizing that she had put her faith in Jesus Christ.
—On Dec. 19, 10 were killed in Kyitehurizi village by Allied Democratic Forces, an Islamic terrorist group from the Democratic Republic of Congo. The attack caused more than 200 other people to flee.
—On Dec. 25, Edrine Ngwabize, 75, and her two grandchildren were killed in Nyabitutsi village when Muslim extremists invaded her home. Reportedly, the assailants said, “We have to teach these infidels a lesson during this Christmas celebration.” Police fatally shot the leader of the assailants as he fled the scene.
Approximately 12% of Uganda’s population is Muslim. Uganda’s constitution and laws allow for freedom of religion, including converting from one faith to another.
However, Christian churches increasingly have received threats of violence, and some Christian converts have been attacked, killed or excommunicated by Muslim family members, the World Atlas reports.
