25 Christians in Nigeria killed in April attacks

ABUJA, Nigeria — The relentless targeting of Christians in Nigeria has claimed at least 25 more lives as the country continues to be the deadliest place in the world for believers.

Nigeria has led the world in the number of Christians killed for their faith or kidnapped, states Open Doors, which tracks the persecution of Christians. Between Oct. 1, 2022, and Sept. 30, 2023, 4,118 Nigerian believers died for their faith.

The following are recent reports from the news services Christian Daily International and Morning Star News:

  •  April 19: Twelve Christians were slain in the community of Tilengpan Pushit in Plateau State. A resident identified the attackers as Muslim Fulani herdsmen.
  • April 27–28: Seven Christians died when Muslim Fulani herdsmen attacked three villages in Benue State, sources said. One Christian was critically injured.
  •  April 28: At least six Christians were killed in a raid upon Ugwujoro Nimbo village in Enugu State. The assailants were Muslim Fulani herdsmen, according to sources. Seven Christians were injured.

Nigeria is No. 6 on Open Doors’ 2024 World Watch List of places most difficult to be a Christian.
