James Alvin Grindstaff, longtime pastor of Stamp Baptist Church, dies Feb. 17

James Alvin Grindstaff, longtime pastor of Stamp Baptist Church, Valley Head, in Sand Mountain Baptist Association, died Feb. 17. He was 76.

Grindstaff served at Stamp Baptist for 29 of his more than 50 years of ministry. Church members say he raised a “whole generation” and knocked on every door in the community while he was there. Before serving at Stamp Baptist, he also served at Victory Baptist Church, an independent Baptist church in Rainsville, and Mount Olive Baptist Church, Fort Payne, in DeKalb Baptist Association.

Grindstaff was preceded in death by his former wife, Susan. He is survived by his wife, Peggy; daughter, Amy; stepson, James; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
