KHARTOUM, Sudan — Muslim extremists attacked a pastor and others during a recent church service, but the pastor and an elder were the ones sentenced to jail.
A Muslim judge on April 25 sentenced Stephanou Adil Kujo, pastor, and Ibrahim Kodi, elder, to one month in jail for “disturbing the peace,” Morning Star News reported.
On April 10, three extremists disrupted the worship service at Sudanese Church of Christ in Al Hag Abdalla. One assailant punched the pastor and assaulted two female congregants; the others destroyed Bibles and chairs.
The church was targeted previously by Muslim extremists, but the court has yet to hand down a verdict for the man who attacked the pastor, Morning Star News noted.
Prior to October Sudan’s government had rescinded some provisions and laws directed at non-Muslims. However, following a coup on Oct. 25 the targeting of Christians has again increased.
Sudan is No. 13 on Open Doors’ 2022 World Watch List of places most difficult to be a Christian.
