Nominations for first and second vice presidents of the Alabama Baptist State Convention are beginning to surface.
Jarman Leatherwood
Jarman Leatherwood, who is serving out his second one-year term as second vice president of the state convention, is being nominated for first vice president.
“I will be nominating my friend and partner in Great Commission ministries, Jarman Leatherwood, for first vice president,” past convention president and pastor Tim Cox shared with The Alabama Baptist. “He has served our Lord and Alabama Baptists faithfully for the last two years as second vice president. He is a gifted leader, passionate pastor, soul winner and a faithful servant of the Lord.
“His smile and personality radiate the joy of the Lord wherever he goes,” said Cox, pastor of Liberty Baptist Church in Chelsea. “Jarman is able and willing to continue to serving Alabama Baptists as one of our officers. Therefore, it is my joy to honor my dear brother in Christ as first vice president.”
Leatherwood serves as pastor of House of Hope and Restoration Church in Huntsville and is part of the State Board of Missions church planting team.
Greg Corbin
Greg Corbin, immediate past chair of the State Board of Missions and pastor of Lakeside Baptist Church in Birmingham, is being nominated for second vice president.
“I am looking forward to nominating Dr. Greg Corbin to be the second vice president,” FBC Gadsden pastor Mat Alexander told The Alabama Baptist. “Greg is an excellent pastor with years of exemplary service to our Alabama Baptist family. Personally, as a young pastor Greg has been a friend and encourager to me over the years. More than once, he has gone out of his way to take me to lunch or reach out to encourage me.
“Greg’s track record of excellent leadership at Lakeside, experience in serving our convention of churches, and ability to encourage and build bridges among his fellow pastors will make him an excellent choice to serve us as second vice president,” Alexander said.
Other nominations
No other nominations for vice presidents have been announced at this point, but one nomination for president has been announced. Read the story here.
Morgan Bailey, who is serving out his second one-year term as first vice president, would have been eligible to be nominated for president but is not seeking the role.
“After a time of prayer and nine years serving in leadership roles with our state convention, I didn’t feel led to be nominated during this season in my life,” Bailey, pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church in Ranburne, shared with The Alabama Baptist. “It has been my joy and privilege to serve His Kingdom through our convention.”
