Another group from an Alabama Baptist church — Hill Crest Baptist in Anniston — is stuck in Israel amid the sudden war that broke out when Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7.
Pastor Stephen Anthony and his wife, Jeanna, were leading the group of 25 on a Holy Land tour and after spending time in Jordan arrived in Israel the day the conflict began.
“Our team is meeting several times a day as we wait for our tour agency, Maranatha Tours, to get us home safely and without incident,” Anthony wrote in a Facebook post Oct. 10, noting that government officials in Alabama were working to help them and others get home.
‘Our faith has grown’
“Our team is prayerful, anticipatory and still finding humor and perspective in all of what has happened,” he wrote. “Our faith has grown, relationships have been forged and the grit of true character has risen in many.”
Anthony noted that God “reigns and controls the times, seasons and securities of the kings, presidents, leaders and countries of this world” and that this “has not escaped the Almighty’s sovereignty.”
A missions team from Shades Mountain Baptist Church in Birmingham was also stuck in Israel but was able to cross the border into Jordan and were set to return to the U.S. today (Oct. 10).
