ABUJA, Nigeria — Violence against Christians in Nigeria intensified as 2023 drew to a close, with 183 killed in the final weeks of the year.
Nigeria has been the world leader in the number of Christians killed for their faith or kidnapped, according to the persecution monitor Open Doors.
The following are recent reports from Christian Daily International-Morning Star News about the ongoing onslaught against Christians in Nigeria:
– Between Dec. 23 and Dec. 25, Muslim Fulani herdsmen and terrorists killed 160 people in coordinated attacks upon at least 21 villages in Plateau state. Most of those killed were women, children and elderly individuals. More than 300 others were wounded.
– On Dec. 25, Islamic extremists believed to be part of Boko Haram killed two Christians in a raid upon a predominantly Christian village in Adamawa state. The assailants also burned houses and looted businesses.
– On Dec. 28, terrorists killed eight Christians in Taraba state. The week prior, another 13 were slain by terrorists who were possibly from Cameroon.
Nigeria is No. 6 on Open Doors’ 2023 World Watch List of places most difficult to be a Christian.
