Salem Baptist Church, Berry, celebrated its bicentennial Oct. 13. Joe Jones, a former pastor, shared the church’s history, and John Killian, director of missions for Fayette County Baptist Association, recognized special guests. David Nelson, a commissioner for the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission, presented the church a commemorative plaque.
Special music was provided by Phillip Pettus. Some members dressed in period costumes, and Clyde Stevens Jr., pastor, invited everyone to gather outside for the dedication of the church’s historical marker. The church is the oldest church in the association.
