A second nominee has been announced for the first vice president role of the Alabama Baptist State Convention.
Kenneth Wells, pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church in Scottsboro, will be nominated by Josh Smith, pastor of Edgefield Missionary Baptist Church in Stevenson.
Smith shared with The Alabama Baptist on Oct. 9 his desire to keep bivocational ministers top of mind for Alabama Baptists.
“Having faithfully served as a bivocational pastor at Shiloh for six years (a church averaging fewer than 50 in attendance), Kenneth has also been busy serving in various roles in committees and leadership in the Tennessee River Baptist Association,” Smith said.
“Ever a champion of encouraging and building up other bivocational pastors, he has led as the secretary/treasurer and president of the Alabama Baptist Bivocational Pastors Association, and he recently retired from a long secular career in the property insurance industry.
“Kenneth truly allows the light of Christ to shine brightly through him, as any time he is a part of a meeting, his infectious smile will cut through even the gloomiest of scowls,” Smith said. “A steadfast friend and prayer warrior, Kenneth and his wife, Rebecca, are always available to listen, give advice and pray over any situation you bring to them.
“I believe that Kenneth would be the best choice for a strong ‘small church’ voice in leadership of Alabama Baptists.”
Wells confirmed his nomination with The Alabama Baptist as did the other nominee, Ryan Whitley, pastor of CrossPoint Church in Trussville, who is being nominated by Daven Watkins, pastor of First Baptist Church Pelham.
State convention officer elections will take place Nov. 11–12 during the annual meeting at Whitesburg Baptist Church in Huntsville.
