Struggling Toward Hope: Life After the Death of a Spouse

What if you were suddenly widowed? How would you cope? How would your life change?

Dr. Bob Terry, author and long-time minister, was faced with those questions and more after a car accident that injured him badly and resulted in the death of his first wife, Eleanor.

Every grief journey is unique, he shares, noting his journey was circuitous and overwhelming and he was tempted at times to give up on the work necessary to deal with the issues of the death of a loved one.

“For me, it took all the strength I could muster — physical, emotional, mental and spiritual strength — to set my face in the storm and walk through it,” he writes. “What I offer on these pages are the insights, understandings, discoveries, struggles, and mistakes of my journey. That is all. Your experience will be different, but there are signposts along the way that are common to every journey. Perhaps learning about some of the common hazards will help you on your grief journey.”
