The targeting of Christians in Nigeria has claimed three more lives.
Christian Daily International-Morning Star News reported the following recent incidents in the unabated persecution of Christians:
Ongoing violence
— A Christian man was killed and several others — including a 9-year-old boy — were abducted Oct. 1 when Ungwan Waziri village in Nigeria’s Kaduna state was invaded. Muslim Fulani herdsmen are the suspects.
— Gunmen shot into a Nigerian Red Cross Society vehicle traveling on Kajiji-Shagari road in Sokoto state Oct. 6, killing Christian humanitarian volunteer Lydia Nwankwo. An area resident described the perpetrators as “Muslim jihadists.”
— Fulani broke into homes Oct. 6 in Millennium City in Kaduna state. Five Christians — including a pregnant woman and a woman with her 6-month-old baby — were kidnapped. A source said Fulani demanded $263,000 to release three captives, who are from the same family.
— In Adamawa state on Oct. 8, a Christian was slain when the suspected terrorist groups Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province attacked the villages of Tela-Bala, Guyaku and Sabon Gari. A church was torched.
World Watch List
Nigeria is No. 7 on Open Doors’ 2026 World Watch List of the 50 places most difficult to be a Christian. Nigeria has led the world in the number of Christians killed for their faith or kidnapped.
