Excitement filled Dauphin Way Baptist Church, Mobile, in Mobile Baptist Association April 23 as the congregation gathered to celebrate the recent completion of renovations to the church.
Everything from the pulpit to the paint on the walls was replaced during the renovation. According to Pastor Clint Pressley, the renovations were needed for two reasons.
“Parts of it were due to Hurricane Katrina, but we’ve been out here since 1988 and we’ve never had any refurbishing or anything like that, so it was time … for a face lift,” he said.
The sanctuary’s interior and other interior walls now sport a sea foam green color with white trim.
One unique addition is a custom wood pulpit crafted by one of the church members.
Also new in the sanctuary is a 14-foot cross hanging on the wall behind the choir. Pressley noted that the sanctuary had never had a cross hanging in it before, making this new addition very special.
On hand for the celebration was Gov. Bob Riley and his family.
“The building looks great. It is absolutely magnificent,” Riley told the congregation. “The building is gorgeous. But the thing that impressed me most when I walked in is this church, you can tell, is on fire for God.”
