A record 87 women attended last fall’s 10th annual Fragrance of the Fall ladies conference, sponsored each year by the Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU) of Mountain View Baptist Church, Phil Campbell, in Franklin Baptist Association.
Martha Farmer, WMU director for Franklin Association and a member of Mountain View Baptist, said she was pleased with the turnout.
“The fact that we have been able to do this for 10 consecutive years and that we have grown each year is awesome,” Farmer said.
Each year, the women of the church and surrounding county enjoy a meal, a guest speaker and special music. “[B]ut the main purpose is just to get together for fellowship, to have a fun day,” said Barbara Pounders, WMU director at Mountain View.
Sylvia Scurlock from New Life Assembly of God in Woodstock was the guest speaker for the conference. She spoke on women of the Bible and shared her personal testimony. “I’ve never been asked to speak in front of so many people and share my testimony, but these women embraced me and my story,” Scurlock said. “It was a life-changing experience.”
Day Star Trio, which is composed of three women from Mountain View, provided the special music. “It was special that for this year, the 10th anniversary, the music was provided by a group of ladies from within Mountain View Baptist Church,” Pounders noted.
