The Alabama Poverty Project will host a forum at Samford University Nov. 15 to provide the state’s faith communities with information and resources about poverty. Wayne Flynt, professor emeritus of history at Auburn University and an expert on poverty in the state, will be the featured speaker. Flynt is also a co-founder of the Alabama Poverty Project and sits on its board of directors.
Samford’s Resource Center for Pastoral Excellence is sponsoring the forum in partnership with The Paul A. Duffey Institute for Church Leadership at Huntingdon College in Montgomery.
The meeting will begin at 11 a.m., followed by lunch for those registered. Onsite registration begins at 10:30 a.m. The program will be in the Samford in Mission Forum and its adjacent auditorium, Room 134, of Brooks Hall.
In addition to Flynt’s presentation, others will speak to the group providing ideas for research, worship and Scripture studies.
Nick Foster, executive director of the Alabama Poverty Project, stressed that the organization wants to provide faith leaders the kind of resources that will enable them to “lead their congregations to be effective in alleviating poverty.”
