James Preachers was “born and reared” in west Coffee County, so he knows what the area has been.
And he has a vision for what it can be.
Preachers has served for the last four years as director of missions for Sardis Baptist Association, which encompasses a little of west Coffee County, east Covington County, Geneva County and one church just over the Florida line.
“They are kind of laid-back, rural churches,” he said of the 11 Sardis Association congregations. “And right now they are beginning to move toward Discipleship Training and greater discipleship in Sunday School.”
Pastors are now meeting together for encouragement and idea sharing, such as during their annual pastors and pastors’ wives banquet, held Dec. 14.
“I want to have ownership of this vision,” Preachers said, noting that the future plans include expanded discipleship programs, men’s ministries and Woman’s Missionary Union.
And it’s working, said James Hataway, pastor of Alberton New Life Baptist Assembly, Kinston. “He’s done a great job mobilizing these small churches to get involved. You can tell a difference already.” (TAB)
