On Feb. 23, children from across Alabama gathered at four "local Baptist airports" to take part in God’s Action-Packed Adventure during the 2008 Children’s Missions Explosion.
The annual event, sponsored by Alabama Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU), was held simultaneously at First Baptist Church, Alexander City; First Baptist Church, Demopolis; Moulton Baptist Church and Southside Baptist Church, Andalusia.
As they arrived, children were greeted by flight attendants and were issued passports before boarding the first of their three flights on the Lottie Express bound for an international missions destination, Annie Airways for a North American destination and the Kathleen Connection for a destination in Alabama. Just before takeoff, the children learned a little about each of the women for whom the airlines were named (Lottie Moon, Annie Armstrong and Kathleen Mallory).
When their flight touched down at its destination, the children met missionaries and experienced what life is like in the region in which those missionaries serve by participating in activities, including food-tasting and playing games. After experiencing the destination, the children’s passports were stamped and they were off to their next locale.
Children also learned about the importance of missions giving in the Cooperative Program room.
"We have a great responsibility to teach children about the need for missions at home and around the world, and in Children’s Missions Explosion, we have a fantastic opportunity to do just that," said Cynthia White, Alabama WMU missions and ministry consultant for preschool and children.
