Nearly 100 people attended the Alabama Campers on Mission (Alabama COM) spring rally April 19–22 at Swindall’s RV Park in Troy. During the meeting, the group of Christian campers who share their faith through construction projects and other service opportunities worshiped together, participated in a talent show and reviewed past missions projects.
They also planned numerous events for the rest of the year including work at Vision Baptist Church in Daleville June 25-July 6; Liberty United Methodist Church in Abbeville July 23–Aug. 10; Salem Baptist Church, Enterprise, Aug. 20–Sept. 14; and Oneida Baptist Institute in Kentucky Oct. 8–19. "We’ve expended about 22,000 man-hours working on 12 projects in the last six months with about 80–90 volunteers," said Walter Miller, Alabama COM’s president. "We have about 270 people in the organization — some are not yet retired and others are a little past their working prime."
In the future, Miller hopes the group will expand in membership and hours worked. "Right now, we are the third largest chapter among all the states," he said.
The Alabama COM fall rally will be held Sept. 20–23 at River Country Campground in Gadsden. For more information on projects or membership, contact Miller at barclay6@roadrunner.com.
