Alabama Baptist historian Wayne Flynt was honored by Baptists Today newsjournal with the Judson-Rice Award for leadership with integrity during the spring meeting of Alabama Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, held April 20–21.
Flynt, professor emeritus at Auburn University, is regarded as a strong advocate for the poor and a bridge builder across racial divides.
Also during the meeting — held at Shades Crest Baptist Church, Hoover — participants unanimously passed a resolution affirming the U.N. Millennium Development Goals.
The eight goals — ranging from halving extreme poverty to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS, all by the target date of 2015 — form a blueprint agreed to by all the world’s leading development institutions. (AlabamaCBF)
