Although its official 50th anniversary celebration is May 6, Vestavia Hills Baptist Church in Birmingham Baptist Association got an early start on the festivities. April 15 marked the start of a three-weeklong emphasis that will culminate in Anniversary Sunday.
Upcoming events include An Evening of Memories May 2 at 6 p.m. in the fellowship hall with a slideshow and remarks from former pastor William Elder and Vestavia Hills Mayor Charles "Scotty" McCallum. On the eve of the anniversary at 7 p.m., the sanctuary choir, Vestavia Hills High School chorus and the Southeastern Chamber Orchestra will present Franz Joseph Hadyn’s "The Creation."
Anniversary Sunday will begin at 8:30 a.m. with coffee and doughnuts in the foyer, followed by the celebration service at 9:30. During that time, the children in the church will have a group picture taken at the front of the sanctuary. Gary Furr is pastor.
