For the second time in his life, Cecil Sewell retired from a full-time pastorate, this time from First Baptist Church, Saks, in Anniston in Calhoun Baptist Association.
The first time was from the pastorate of Westwood Baptist Church, Forestdale, in Birmingham Baptist Association.
First, Saks, was the last in a long line of churches Sewell served during his 52 years of ministry. Born in the coal-mining community of Piper in Bibb County, he graduated from Howard College (now Samford University) in Birmingham and then served several churches in Alabama, as well as one in Texas and First Baptist Church in Orleans, France.
After Sewell’s 2000 retirement from Westwood Baptist, he served as interim pastor in several places, finally stopping at First, Saks, in 2003. On his last Sunday, March 11, church members presented him with a plaque and six months’ pay.
Sewell will be available for supply and interim preaching in north Alabama. He may be reached by calling 931-293-2207 or writing to 101 Terry Lane, Cornersville, TN 37047.
