February 4 was Super Sunday for Hueytown Baptist Church in Bessemer Baptist Association as it marked its 35th anniversary.
About 435 gathered for the celebration, held in conjunction with the church’s Super Sunday.
Every year, Hueytown Baptist has a different emphasis for Super Bowl Sunday. This year, Pastor Jerry Watts encouraged church members to reach high attendance goals in Sunday School and worship services.
The church was organized Feb. 20, 1972, with 153 charter members, Watts said. More than a third of those were present at the celebration, as well as former pastor Billy Hatley, who spoke a few words in the morning worship service.
The Bibletones, a gospel group, sang in the service and in concert after a potluck lunch.
