BRENTWOOD, Tenn. — The average full-time Southern Baptist pastor earns $39,187 a year in salary and housing allowance, plus benefits and expenses equaling a total compensation package of $51,589.
That’s according to a biennial survey of churches in 18 Baptist state conventions including old line states like Georgia and Alabama, smaller conventions like New England and Hawaii and others in between.
The average pastor’s salary increased $3,141 since the last survey, or 8 percent over two years. The best-paid pastors were in Georgia, where the average salary and housing totaled $43,560, and the lowest-paid were in Iowa, where the typical Southern Baptist pastor earned $29,814.
