Alabama couple appointed as IMB missionaries

Two Alabamians were among 67 appointed as missionaries with the International Mission Board (IMB) during an Oct. 31 service at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

The addition of Mike and Debbie Lansford and their counterparts brought the total of IMB missionaries to nearly 5,200.

The Lansfords, whose home church is Mount Zion Baptist, Warrior, have been tapped to serve as career missionaries in the Central, Eastern and Southern Africa region, where they have served since 2003 as International Service Corps missionaries. Mike Lansford will serve in evangelism and church planting, and Debbie Lansford will serve in community and home outreach.

For several years prior to their service with the IMB, Mike Lansford served as pastor of Edgewater Baptist Church, Birmingham. During his years in the pastorate, he and his wife also worked for Trawick Contractors Inc. in Birmingham.

The missionary appointment service, which drew a crowd of about 2,000, was part of the Missouri Baptist Convention’s annual meeting and the IMB trustee meeting held in St. Louis. (TAB)
