Anniston church offers free fun

More than 500 people enjoyed free barbecue and activities during a block party Sept. 23 by Fairview Heights Northside Baptist Church in Anniston.

Six professions of faith were made as a result of the event, which also featured hot dogs and soft drinks.

Children’s events included pony rides, a dunking booth, moon walk and other activities. Entertainment featured a puppet ministry, "Wacky" the clown and music by local groups.

Those who attended were also eligible for door prizes donated by individuals and local businesses.

The block party wasn’t all play. Twelve individuals shared the gospel, including five from the Baptist Campus Ministry at Jacksonville State University.

The weather was nice for the event, which church organizers said they began planning for in February. Church members sadi the block party was seen as an evangelistic tool in place of a fall carnival. (TAB)
