Miss Samford Amanda Tapley was named Miss Alabama 2008 June 7 at the end of the scholarship pageant, which is held annually in Wright Center on the Samford University campus.
Tapley, a piano performance and pre-medicine major, recently completed her sophomore year at Samford.
The Birmingham native impressed the audience with her performance of Tchaikovsky’s "Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat Minor." Her pageant platform is Music for a Cure of pediatric diseases.
Another Samford student, Katie Boyd, was first runner-up.
