Pope, Milton Hart

Milton Hart Pope, a former leader in Alabama Baptist life for many years, died Aug. 23 in California. He was 83.

Pope served as pastor of Southern Baptist churches in Alabama, Kentucky and Indiana. In addition to his pulpit work, he served as an associate in the Training Union Department of the State Board of Missions in Montgomery.
Pope was also active in working with the Alabama Citizens Action Program. He served for more than 15 years as director of missions with the DeKalb Baptist Association.

Following his retirement, Pope served as a Christian Service Corps volunteer in Alabama, Wyoming, Montana and Indiana.

Immediate survivors include his wife, Vela, and sister, Martha McWhorter.  (TAB)
