Carlisle Baptist Church marks 75th anniversary

Members of Carlisle Baptist Church, Boaz, in Marshall Baptist Association knew 2006 was going to be a big year — they just didn’t realize how big until about halfway in. The year marks the 75th anniversary of the church, and according to Pastor Jeff Martin, even though Carlisle Baptist was constituted in January, the congregation didn’t realize the significance of the year in the church’s history until a few months later.

“Once we realized we were in our anniversary year, we decided to take a few months, do some research and celebrate it with a large celebration in October,” Martin said.

Oct. 8 was just that — a decoupage of memories hung on photo boards, displayed in PowerPoint presentations, viewed in video form and talked about from the pulpit. More than 90 people packed into the church for the occasion. Martin said the children of the first pastor, now in their 70s and 80s, were in attendance.

The day served as a testimony to a church that’s still faithfully serving its community and doing the Lord’s work, said Randall Stoner, director of missions for Marshall Association.

“They are one of our association’s oldest churches, and they are a very viable part … we are thrilled to have them,” he said.
