Missionary Virgina Lake dies at 99

WAKE FOREST, N.C. — Virginia Lake, emeritus International Mission Board missionary to China, who had taught school in Alabama before her appointment, died Nov. 11, 2000. She was 99.

Born in Wake Forest, N.C., Lake was appointed to China in 1933, where she served with her husband, the late John W. Lake. She served as an evangelistic worker for six years before he retired in 1939.

Lake was reactivated as a missionary in 1958, serving as a home and church worker in Honolulu, Waipahu and Ewa Beach, Hawaii, until her retirement in 1967.

Lake was a graduate of Westhampton College of the University of Richmond (Va.) and Columbia University in New York City, N.Y.
