After 17 years of asking students to write to Chinese pen pals, the Fellowship of Baptist Educators has decided it’s time to start typing instead.
This year, the fellowship is asking for Christian groups or individuals in grades 7 through 12 to become pen pals through e-mail with Chinese students who want to practice their English skills. For many American students, it provides a way to share their Christian faith in a country where missions work is restricted.
In the past, thousands of “Christian Corresponders” have built these relationships through pen-and-pencil and airmail.
The fellowship decided this year to switch to a more up-to-date procedure.
If interested, contact John Carter at j-fcarter@juno.com with the following information by Oct. 15:
– Name of church and/or group,
– Name, postal address and phone number of leader, and
Also, for each participating student, please include his or her name, gender, grade level and e-mail address.
The information will be sent to English teachers in China, and American students should soon receive e-mails from their Chinese pen pals.
