35th Anniversary
Mountain Heritage
The boys from Candler, N.C., have been at it again. Mixing the sounds of acoustic and bluegrass instrumentation with the trademark biblically based lyrics of southern gospel music, the result is another outstanding recording for the Primitive Quartet. All 10 songs represent the normal fare for the quartet, offering a blend of both old and new songs that are sure to delight all of their fans.
For those who enjoy up-tempo songs, “John Knew,” “Didn’t He Shine” and “I Love to Walk With Jesus” are the ones to play first.
But that doesn’t mean the slower “The Precious One,” “Reaping From Fields I’ve Never Sown,” “Dear Jesus I Love You,” “Someday,” “He’s Still Been a Good God to Me,” “He Didn’t Stay Dead” and “Grace Is There” should be given just a quick listen. Each song is vintage Primitive Quartet and as always their masterful pickin’ is heard on each selection. As with most Primitive recordings, these guys perform all of the music, with just the barest additional work of David Johnson.
It’s taken 35 years to do it, but the Primitive Quartet has developed a following that is among the most loyal in Christian music. That’s a testimony to their talents, but more importantly, their consistent dedication to their supporters and to the good Lord above. (By Danny Jones)
