Each weekday morning at Springfield Baptist Church, Brundidge, a group of senior adults gathers to exercise and fellowship.
These 12 active seniors meet in the fellowship hall of the Salem-Troy Baptist Association church to not only keep their physical bodies fit but also to build up the body of Christ.
The IN-JOY exercise group keeps them going socially, mentally and especially spiritually, group members said.
Virginia Bryan, who organizes senior adult activities at Springfield Baptist, said the church’s senior adults do everything from disaster relief training to helping with special events.
She said they are always eager to serve, using their spiritual gifts to reach out to those whose health problems prevent them from joining other members at church. They regularly visit the homebound, bringing them recordings of each week’s church service as well as serving them home-cooked meals.
Pastor Kenneth Baggett participates in IN-JOY and said he enjoys the quality time with church members. “This group is able to form bonds and encourage each other in ways they couldn’t if they didn’t have this time together each morning,” he said. “We’ve been starting new programs to meet the needs of all age groups, and we’re encouraged because we’re seeing the fruit of our hard work.” (TAB)
