Canaan Church hosts BCM Night for students

In order to connect high school students and parents with Alabama Baptist colleges and Baptist Campus Ministries (BCM), Canaan Baptist Church, Bessemer, in Bessemer Baptist Association held BCM Night on Feb. 15 with six BCM and college representatives.

“It will be our preference that they support the Baptist colleges and universities. But because of degrees and such, we understand there will be some students that go to the University of Alabama or Auburn or Montevallo and that kind of thing,” said Charles Teague, Canaan Baptist’s journey pastor, a role similar to minister of education and administration.

He added that the goal of the event was to make parents and students aware that there are state missionaries on most college campuses in the state.

More than 30 students gathered with their parents and church family to hear a message from Andrew Westmoreland, president of Samford University in Birmingham, and socialize at a campus ministries “meet and greet.”

“There are resources and opportunities out there to help beyond what the church can offer, and to get those connections to our folks will help to make that journey easier, especially for students making that transition in life,” Teague said.

“To get all the information they can will help make that a successful transition.”
