Members of Dawson Memorial choir go to China

About 40 members of the Sanctuary Choir of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church, Birmingham, in Birmingham Baptist Association are currently sharing their musical talents in China.

The group, which left for the cities of Tianjin and Beijing on March 13 and will return March 23, is assisting choral students as they prepare for the International Christian School Choral Festival later this month. While overseas, the choir will perform public concerts at the Tianjin International School and an adult-care facility and is expected to participate in other public concerts as well. It also will perform in Beijing at the Congregation of the Good Shepherd.

To showcase the music being performed in China, the full 150-voice Sanctuary Choir and the Birmingham Chinese Christian Church choir, accompanied by the 45-piece Dawson Orchestra, put on a concert at Dawson Memorial Baptist on March 8.

The concert — directed by Minister of Music Bob Hatfield and Pat Morrow, who leads the orchestra — included selections such as orchestral pieces, classic anthems and African-American spirituals.

Gary Fenton is senior pastor of Dawson.
