Vota is fun. Vota is poppy. Vota is catchy. Vota has a diverse sound. Vota sounds like the Newsboys at times and Weezer at times and Maroon 5 at other times, but the first song, “Hard to Believe,” sounds like “Jesus Freak”-era dc Talk, which is a really good thing. And the third song, “Love’s Taken Over,” is surely tipping its hat to Tom Petty’s “Free Falling” — also a good thing. Oh, and “Not Finished” sounds like Def Leppard.  Vota knows how to craft songs and make a record, and that’s what bands are supposed to do.
