Training opportunities for the worship teams of smaller membership churches will soon be offered closer to home.
“We wanted to provide some training opportunities for the minister of music, the accompanists, the children’s choir leaders and the sound techs of the smaller membership churches that would be accessible to them in terms of location and schedule,” said Keith Hibbs, director of the worship leadership and church music office of the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions (SBOM).
First Baptist Church, Clanton, in Chilton Baptist Association will host the first workshop May 1–2, and Raleigh Avenue Baptist Church, Homewood, in Birmingham Baptist Association will host the second workshop May 15–16. Another workshop will be held in the Troy area in August.
Breakout sessions will be led for accompanists by Brenda Odom, music associate of First Baptist, Pleasant Grove; for music directors by Guy Anderson, minister of music at Elkdale Baptist, Selma; for children’s choir leaders by Karen Gosselin, associate in the SBOM church music office; and for sound technicians by Hibbs.
Sessions will begin Friday evening and finish at noon Saturday. For more information, contact Hibbs at 1-800-264-1225, Ext. 217, or khibbs@alsbom.org. (SBOM)
