Temple Hill youth assist at Boys & Girls Clubs

The youth of Real Life Student Ministry at Temple Hill Baptist Church, Empire, took a week out of their summer to experience servanthood firsthand.

Traveling to Cleveland, Tenn., June 1–5, a group of 22 students and adults from the Sulphur Springs Baptist Association church joined in the festivities Student Life Camp had to offer, including a special missions project at Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland.

Through backyard Bible club, recreation and songs, relationships were built and lives were transformed by the hand of Christ, said Steve Hunt, Temple Hill Baptist’s youth minister.

“We gave out dollar-store, paperback Bibles, and they were treating them like they were gold,” Hunt said of the 6- to 14-year-old children at the facility. “I told our students to treat the boys and girls like they were royalty, like they were rock stars, and that’s just what they did.”

The group donated equipment such as soccer balls, basketballs and jump ropes for the children. And because of church members’ generosity, the youth donated $400 to help further the clubs’ ministry.

Hunt said above all else, he believes his students learned the true meaning of the camp’s theme, “Flip,” based on Matthew 20:16.

“They actually took the theme of that camp and applied it firsthand in the lives of those students (at Boys & Girls Clubs),” Hunt said.

“They learned servanthood — true biblical servanthood — and humility.”
