Mount Hebron Church celebrates 50 years serving Welti

Pastor Jeff Bullard knows his small congregation well. And there was something different about it Aug. 9 as Mount Hebron Baptist Church celebrated 50 years of reaching out to the Welti community.

“The thing that stuck out was the humbleness of the congregation, realizing how blessed they were that God allowed the church to be organized in that community,” Bullard said. “God didn’t put Mount Hebron Church here for any other reason but to reach this community.”

Organized Aug. 9, 1959, by a small group of people, the church met for more than a year in the homes of two charter members before constructing its existing building.

Fifty years later, the East Cullman Baptist Association church celebrated its anniversary with more than double the number of regular attendees — 70 people — and a former pastor bringing the morning message. Members and former members shared fond memories and experiences of grace, and the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission presented the church with a plaque for its 50 years of ministry.

The celebration continued after the morning service with a meal and an afternoon singing with the Strait Way Quartet.

“We were really excited about the 50 years we have had,” Bullard said. “We are looking forward to the many more the Lord will allow us to have, and we are excited about the work still left to do in the community.”
